Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance details, charges, and your obligations for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To hire a vehicle in Northumberland, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra charges applicable for drivers under 25. You must possess a valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional requirements, if any, will be detailed in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Northumberland office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Payment in full, along with a security deposit, is generally required upon collection of your vehicle. All pricing is displayed in British Pounds (£) and includes VAT as applicable. We accept all major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pick-Up and Drop-Off
- At the time of collection, please conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same level of fuel as at collection; otherwise, refueling charges will apply. Late returns may attract additional fees; please contact us if you anticipate a delay. You are responsible for any parking tickets, traffic violations, or other charges that occur during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. Detailed coverage information and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to limit your financial liability, so it is beneficial to review these closely. You will be responsible for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless you opt for extra insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms will remain your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period given. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other dangerous driving is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unapproved drivers is forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is unacceptable. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose and within specified passenger and weight limits. Operating the vehicle outside designated geographical boundaries without prior consent is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by Northumberland law, Car Hire assumes no responsibility for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claim will not exceed the rental amount paid in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Legal Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in this region.
Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately when posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
